Puerto Rico Needs Our Help

We know that disaster relief is a bit outside of our purview. But when our fellow citizens are in need, it’s our responsibility to help them. Here are some suggestions on how to do that.

Sign the Petition
The Jones Act (Merchant Marine Act 1920, 46 U.S.C. § 883) prevents foreign ships from carrying cargo between the US mainland and noncontiguous parts of the US like Puerto Rico. This makes supplies more expensive, and in the event of a disaster, it slows down recovery.

Sign this petition to waive the Jones Act — and it would help to call your MoCs as well. Let them know you want to help your fellow citizens as quickly as possible.

Supplies are great, but the fact is, money is always best. Here are a couple of highly rated charities we found on Charity Navigator that are helping bring relief to the people of Puerto Rico.
